Civil Air Patrol is the official Civilian Auxiliary of the US Air Force, with a long history beginning in 1941. Delaware is home to one of the original "Coastal Patrol" units, based in Rehoboth Beach. Today, the Delaware Wing of the Civil Air Patrol has units from Claymont to Georgetown, and a unit just over the border in Elkton, MD. As a federally-chartered organization, CAP has 3 primary missions as instructed by congress.

Our Commander's Vision

  • Espouse the principle of service to our nation and community. 
  • Provide this service with pride and professionalism.

  • Inspire members to serve by providing valued training that will facilitate the safe and effective execution of our missions. 
  • Incorporate fun into the program and promote activities that forge positive, long lasting relationships among our members.

The Commanders' 2010 Goals

  •  #1 in national flight hours
  • No accidents/incidents
  • 475 members /80% retention
  • Train 50 members to be UDF qualified
  • 80% active senior members achieve Yeager Award
  • Cadet awards attained:  Wright Brothers - 30; Mitchell - 15; Earhart - 9; Eaker - 3; Spaatz - 2
  • Senior member awards attained: Level II - 15; Level III - 5; Level IV - 3 and Level V - 3
  • OPS – add 2 Archer operators and 4 Archer track operators, 2 GA-8 pilots
  • Utilize 100% of Cadet Orientation Flight Budget
  • Fully functioning web site

 

 The Commanders' 2009 Goals

  • Zero Accidents / Incidents From the Wing Conference Forward
  • Earn an overall EXCELLENT rating for the SAREVAL
  • Earn an overall SUCCESSFUL rating for the Compliance Inspection with less than 10 FINDINGS total
  • Diamond Flight Drill Team will win MER Cadet Competition
  • Be #1 in the NATION for average flight hours per aircraft
  • Grow to 440 members (at least 175 cadets)
  • Overall Membership Retention > 70%
  • Each Squadron with Cadets: 5 cadets earn milestone awards. 2 Cadets Wing-wide Achieve Spaatz Award
  • 10 Senior Members Achieve Level II and 3 Senior Members Achieve Level III
  • Two Senior Members attend the Middle East Region Staff College
  • 25 members achieve the basic communication rating
  • 100% NIMS compliance for members with ES qualifications
  • Qualify one new Chaplain and one new Moral Leadership (Character Development) Officer.
  • All Chaplains Mission Chaplain qualified
  • Qualify 10 additional ground team members. At least 3 trained Ground Teams in DEWG
  • Transition 3 Mission Pilots to the 182T (Glass Cockpit)
  • Qualify 5 Mission Pilots, 5 Mission Observers, 5 Mission Scanners
  • Present two Flight Clinics
  • Utilize 100% of Cadet Orientation Flight Budget
  • Cleanup Fort DuPont Headquarters facility
